Last Revised: 10/09/2022
Domain Backorders
If a Domain Backorder credit has been applied to an auction, then it is non-refundable (if not yet applied to an auction, eligible for a refund within 30 days of the date of the transaction).
namecrowdfunding is not a store.
When you back a project, you’re supporting a domainer’s right to invest the domains—and agreeing to go along for the ride.
For more information, please read our Terms of Use.
What are creators obligated to do?
When a domain project is successfully funded, the creator is responsible for completing the domain investing project. The creators will buy the domains for backers.
All funds raised goes directly to the creator and is managed by the creator
How do I request a refund?
If a domain crowdfunding project is still live, you can cancel your pledge before it ends. However, once a successful project has ended, and domain auctions has ended, it is no longer possible to cancel your pledge.
Keep in mind, however, that if the funds have already gone towards producing rewards then a refund may not be possible at this time.
Why has the project creator unexpectedly issued me a refund?
If you’ve been issued a refund but did not request it from the creator, you should visit the project’s most recent update as a first step, to see if there is any information relating to the refund. The creator may have refunded your pledge as they are unable to fulfill your selected reward as planned, or they’ve run into issues with their domain investing project.
A refund may also have been issued if a project was suspended after it ended successfully. You can read more about suspensions in this article.
If you’re unable to find specific information on the project page, you’ll need to reach out to the creator directly for more clarification on why you were issued a refund.
Note that creators are responsible for issuing refunds, and namecrowdfunding is not involved in this process. A creator can choose whether or not to issue a refund and it is entirely at their discretion, however we do expect them to communicate with their backers when a refund is issued.
